Tulsa Ballet has proven it can address public health concerns while also providing the same artistic excellence you’ve come to expect, and we can’t wait to share it with you at our annual fundraising gala, Icons & Idols.
Our Safety Protocols were developed in order to meet and exceed the recommendations and guidelines from the state of Oklahoma, the City of Tulsa, the CDC, and the Tulsa County Health Department. Additionally, we have consulted with Cox Business Convention Center and our own infectious disease expert consultant, Dr. Brett Jaggers from Denver, CO.
When you come to Icons & Idols this year, it may look a bit different – with a modified cocktail hour, many dinner tables set for parties of two (with larger groups available by mutual guest agreement), greater distance between tables, and a virtual option for those who prefer to join the party from home. Please know we are simply putting the utmost safety of our patrons, dancers, and staff as our top priority.
So what can you expect this year?
Before you come to Icons & Idols, we are going to ask you to review the screening questions from the CDC to determine if you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, which includes having a body temperature of over 100.4 degrees. And, we ask you to please stay home if you are.
When you arrive for Icons & Idols, please know we recommend the wearing of face coverings for everyone who comes to the gala this year. If you do not have a mask, we will provide one for you before you enter the Cox Business and Convention Center.
Masks should only be removed when you are seated for dinner. Seating will be for groups of two, four, six, or eight with guest approval. And, for their safety, dancers will not be in attendance for dinner this year.
SAVOR... (Cox Business Convention Center’s catering group) has put in place a range of procedures to ensure all reusable serving ware is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized, and direct contact by staff is either eliminated or reduced.
Some things that will look a bit different with dinner service:
Signage with COVID-19 reminders regarding masks, sanitization, and social distancing will be placed throughout the venue with directional signage and floor markings. Hand sanitizer stations will be throughout the venue.
Additionally, Cox Business Convention Center has made the following air quality improvements: increasing building intake and air exchange rates during occupied event hours; ongoing process of replacing HVAC air filters; and pre-return inspection of all Life Safety Systems.
All in all, please know we are doing everything possible to help keep everyone safe and we appreciate your support and understanding as we work through this new process together.

Some things that will look a bit different with dinner service:
- All silverware will be rolled in the napkin
- Water will be poured as guests are seated versus pre-poured (with the glass being preset empty on the table prior to guest-entry)
- All food will be served covered:
- All courses will be served to the table with the plate-cover on, then removed as the course is placed in front of each guest.
- Butter will be served in a ramekin and covered with a solid black coaster
- Bread will be served with tongs to each guest on their B&B plate
- Then the basket will then be left on the table with tongs
- Salt and pepper will be brought to the table on request versus preset as a shared item
- Wine service will be conducted as usual, but due to COVID-19 bottles are unable to be left at the tables. Rather, wine servers will pour for each guest.
